Create your own File Extension

It is very easy to create your own file extension in your without the need for third party software.

Just few simple steps. Let’s do this in any computer within a few minutes. 

Creating file extension:
  • Open My Computer.
  • Click on Tools in the menu bar, and select Folder Options.
  • Under the File Types tab, click on the New button to create a new file extension for example type in ‘fxt’ in the ‘create new extension window’ and press enter.
 Assigning an application to open file extension:
  • In Folder Options, click on fxt file and click Advanced
  • Choose an icon for the file extension by clicking Change Icon.
  • Enter name for the application (this name will be your application name for example File Extension). 
  • Click New to assign an action under Action textbox, and application for the extension under Application used to perform action textbox. 
  • Click OK to close the window.

Editing the registry:
  • Open registry editor in  C:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe or Click Start, thenRun, and type regedit, and Click OK.
  • Collapse the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, and click on fxt.
  • Select New-Key, and type in ‘ShellNew’. 
  • Right click New-string value, and type in ‘NullFile’. 
  • Exit the registry editor.
Using the create file extension:
  • Right click on free space in the explorer or on the desktop.
  • Under New menu, select File extension and give a name to your file.

Thats it so  simple to create and use...
