Power Star Dr Srinivasan

Power Star Dr Srinivasan, a business man turned doctor, turned out into an actor, saying about the reason, why he turned out to be an actor was that, after failures in all the profession he chose, he finally stepped into acting with the blessings of Shridi Sai Baba.

After the success of 'Lathika' (200 days), the doctor turned actor is awaiting the release of his upcoming flick 'Ananda Thollai'. Power Star Srinivasan has a separate fan following for his punch dialogues and power packed roles he plays in his movies.

The actor has worked in films like Desiya Nedunchalai, Indra Sena, Karungali, Laththika, Mannavan, Moolakkadai, Murugan, Naane Varuven – 2010, Pa. Ra. Pazhanisami, Poongodi Jannalil, Suranga Padhai, and Unakkaga Oru Kavithai.

Popular Kollywood Actor 'Power Star' Srinivasan was on Friday arrested on charges of cheating a businessman of Rs 65 lakh. He was arrested on a complaint from G U Balasubramanian, proprietor of RBS International in Chrompet, to city police Commissioner J K Tripathy that the actor had taken the money after promising to get him a 10 crore loan.
Balasubramanian said he never got the loan. Police said Balasubramanian had approached the actor's finance company, Baba Trading, on Poonamalle High Road to arrange the cash to help him expand his business six months ago. The actor told the businessman that he would charge 5% as service charge for getting the loan. Subsequently he took the money claiming that the amount is towards documentation charges and commission.

"He failed to obtain the loan and kept dodging the businessman. He promised to return the sum when the complainant warned him of approaching us," said an investigating officer. Bala Surbamanian in his complaint alleged that he was threatened at gunpoint when he approached Srinivasan at his Anna Nagar residence.

Police have registered a case under IPC Section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) 27 Arms Act. He was remanded in judicial custody and lodged in Puzhal prison. Police said several others had earlier gone to them with complaints against Srinivasan, but they all arrived at a compromise. On May 4, a Saidapet resident called Ganesan lodged a complaint that Srinivasan had taken 10 lakh promising a loan.

The police are investigating into the matter and are also probing the possibility of this being a 'false case' foisted by Srinivasan himself in order to garner some’ publicity.

Srinivasan is a physician who directed and acted in the movie Lathika (2011). He later made guest appearances in movies like 'Mandapam,' 'Unakkaga Oru Kavithai,' 'Neethana Avan' and 'Indrasena.' He is working on the film 'Kanna Laddu Thinna Asaiya' with Santhanam in the lead role.

3D Glass

A new technology have developed to enjoy 3D movie experience at home without using the 3-D glasses. This technology simply adapts conventional 3-D films to the new displays in real time will be unveiled in Berlin at this year's IFA trade show next month.

Now researchers at Fraunhofer Institute, Heinrich-Hertz Institute, HHI in Berlin developed a technology that converts a Blu-ray's existing 3-D content to be shown on autostereoscopic displays.

"Lounging on a sofa while watching a 3D movie is an exquisite pleasure for many film fans. Be that as it may, those nettlesome 3D glasses might diminish the fun somewhat," researchers said in a statement.
Though prototypes of these TV screens already exist, consumers will not have to wait much longer for the market introduction of these autostereoscopic displays.

However, autostereoscopic displays need five to ten views of the same scene. In the future, the number will probably be even more. This is because these displays have to present a three-dimensional image in such a manner that it can be seen from different angles, there is more than one place to sit on a sofa, and you should be able to get the same three dimensional impressions from any position.

"We take the existing two images and generate a depth map -- that is to say, a map that assigns a specific distance from the camera to each object," said Christian Riechert, research fellow at HHI.

"From there we compute any of several intermediate views by applying depth image-based rendering techniques. And here's the really neat thing: The process operates on a fully automated basis, and in real time," he said. Previous systems were only capable of generating such depth maps at a dramatically slower pace; sometimes they even required manual adaption. The researchers have already finished the software that converts these data.

Antonio Banderas - Mask of Zorro

Antonio Banderas - Mask of Zorro

Antonio Banderas - Mask of Zorro

Antonio Banderas who is internationally known for his charisma and smoldering good looks, and he is the ultimate manifestation of the Latin heartthrob. Banderas wanted to become a professional soccer player until a broken foot sidelined his dreams at the age of fourteen. He then enrolled in some drama classes, and eventually joined a theatre troupe that toured all over Spain. His work in the theatre and performances on the streets, landed him a spot with the National Theatre of Spain. While performing with the theatre, Banderas caught the attention of the director Pedro Almodóvar, who cast the young actor in his film debut, Laberinto de Pasione (Labyrinth of Passion) (1982).

He went on to appear in the director's La Ley del Deseo (Law of Desire) (1984), making headlines with his performance as a gay man, which required him to engage in his first male-to-male onscreen kiss. After Banderas appeared in Almodóvar's Matador (1986), the director cast him in his internationally acclaimed Mujeres al Borde de un Ataque de Nervios (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) (1988). The recognition Banderas gained for his role increased two years later when he starred in Almodóvar's controversial Atame! (Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!) as a mental patient who kidnaps a porn star (Victoria Abril) and keeps her tied up until she returns his love.Banderas made his first stateside appearance as an unwitting object of Madonna's affections in Truth or Dare (1991). The following year, still speaking next to no English, he starred in his first American film, The Mambo Kings. It was a testament to his acting abilities that, despite having to learn all of his lines phonetically, Banderas still managed to turn in a critically praised performance as a struggling musician.

He broke through to mainstream American audiences as the gay lover of AIDS-afflicted lawyer Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks) in Philadelphia (1993). The film's success earned Banderas wide recognition, and the following year he was given a substantial role in Neil Jordan's high-profile adaptation of Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, which allowed him to share the screen with the likes of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Banderas subsequently appeared in a number of films of widely varying quality, doing particularly strong work in Desperado (1995), Evita (1998), and The Mask of Zorro (1998).

In 1999, he made his first foray into directing with Crazy in Alabama, a black comedy starring Melanie Griffith, to whom he had been married since 1996. The following year he starred as an aspiring boxer opposite Woody Harrelson in Play It to the Bone, portrayed a Cuban tycoon with a bad seed bride (Angelina Jolie) in Original Sin, and starred alongside Bob Hoskins and Wes Bentley in The White River Kid.

Well established as a hearthrob and a talented dramatic actor by the end of the 1990s, the fact that Desperato director Robert Rodriguez was the only director to have expolored Banderas' comic potential (Banderas provided one of the few memorable performances in Rodriguez's segment of the otherwise abysmal Four Rooms (1995)) hinted at a heretofore unexplored but potentially lucrative territory for the actor.

Later approached by Rodriguez to portray the super-spy patriarch in the family oriented adventure comedy Spy Kids (2001), Banderas charmed children and adults alike with his role as a kidnapped agent whose children must discover their inner stregnth in order to rescue their mother and father. After reprising his role in the following year's Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams, Banderas would next return to more adult oriented roles in both Brian DePalma's Femme Fatale and the ill-fated Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever (both 2002). After essaying a more historic role in the dramatic biopic Frida (also 2002), the remarkably diverse actor would one again team with Rodriguez for the sprawling Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003). In 2004 he joined the highly successful Shrek franchise voicing Puss In Boots, and the character became so popular that he appeared in each of the following sequels, and was the subject of his own feature in 2011. In 2005 he played Zorro again, and he had a major part in the dance film Take the Lead.

In 2011 he reteamed for the first time in two decades with Pedro Almodovar in the Hitchcock-inspired The Skin I Live In, and the next year he appeared as a mysterious international espionage figure in the action film Haywire. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, Rovi.

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA TEST VICTORY AGAINST ENGLAND

CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA TEST VICTORY AGAINST ENGLAND

Cricket South Africa congratulates team for Test victory against England – Cricket News Update
Cricket South Africa has lauded the Proteas for their recent resounding Test success in England, which saw them emerging victorious from the first Test of the 3-match series, played at the Kennington Oval in London from July 19 to 23.
“There is still much work to be done to clinch the series,” said Jacques Faul, CSA’s Acting CEO. “But this is a moment to celebrate what has been a wonderful team performance of high quality and intensity.”
“There have been standout performances from Hashim Amla, Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis and Dale Steyn but there have also been many unsung heroes,” Faul added.
The Proteas went into the series hungry to claim the number one spot on the ICC’s Test team rankings, which is currently occupied by England, and the first triumph, a comprehensive victory by an innings and 12 runs, augurs well for the Proteas in the remainder of the series.
The first Test saw England winning the toss and electing to bat first, with Alastair Cook (115) and Jonathan Trott (71) appearing to have gotten the hosts up to a dominant position.
However, the Proteas turned the tables on the home team on the start of the second day, and eventually answered England’s first innings total of 385 with a powerful 637, courtesy brilliant performances by skipper Graeme Smith (who scored a 131 in the 100th Test of his career), Jacques Kallis (182), and Player of the Match Hashim Amla (who became the first South African to score a 300+ score in a Test match with his emphatic 311).
South Africa declared at 637, and the last day saw the bowlers stepping up to finish the match off, with Dale Steyn (5 for 56) and Imran Tahir (3 for 63) playing a pivotal role in cutting England off at 240.
“This is the first time England have lost a home Test match by an innings in three years and The Oval has been a ground where England have previously been almost invincible. It is our first victory at The Oval ever,” Faul pointed out, going on to praise Smith’s timely declaration, which allowed the Proteas bowlers to finish off the job.
Having gained a 1-0 lead, South Africa will be looking to clinch the series in the second match, due to be played at Headingley in Leeds from August 2 to 6.

Le Royal Monceau - France

Though The Royal Monceau has been serving up luxury since 1928, don't expect a stuffy, old-fashioned atmosphere here. After a full-on, midcentury design assault by Philippe Starck, this hotel is now fresh, modern and still — thankfully — oh so Parisian. The personal details are what make this property enticing, especially in the suites, where you might even find a packet of love letters among the amenities. We adore bustling, cutting edge Hong Kong for leading the hotel pack through the 21st century, but when it comes to romance, we're happy to trade sleek and trendy for intimate and unique. With just ten suites (the smallest measuring in at 800 square feet), Hullett House blends Chinese and British influences in a classic white colonial building dating back to 1881. Each room is individually decorated, from the Tsing Lung Suite, paying tribute to Imperial China, to the Pui O Suite, showcasing the jazz ethos of old Shanghai. There is one highlight, though, that all accommodations share: private terraced balconies with views of the gardens, harbor and/or Hong Kong skyline. The property has five — count 'em, five — drinking and dining venues, including Mariner's Rest, where guests can enjoy cocktails in the original jail cells of this building that once served as the city's Marine Police Headquarters. Prisoner of love, indeed!

In the hillside village of Fiesole overlooking Florence, Il Salviatino drifts like a Medieval dream above one of Italy's most romantic cities. Serving as a palace in the 1400s, the privately owned villa has been lovingly restored by local artisans, blending ancient frescoes and mosaics with a rich contemporary décor that is opulent without being over the top. Among the swooningly aristocratic guest rooms, the best choices for lovebirds include the two-level Marcello Suite at the top of the tower and the Ojetti Suite with a private balcony that gazes over the Duomo. Couples can dine on dishes sourced from local grandmothers, indulge in treatments at Devarana Spa or simply seek out a quiet corner of the gardens for a tryst à deux. That's amore!

Jackie Chan The Kung Fu Master

Jackie Chan The Kung Fu Master

Jackie Chan is one of my favorite actor, he was born in Hong Kong on April 7th, 1954. He childhood name is Chan Kong-sang. Jackie learned kung fu from his childhood, and he took a job as the head cook at the American embassy in Australia when he was seven years old. Jackie learned martial arts, acrobatics, singing, and acting in school, where the school was meant to prepare boys for a life in the Peking Opera. Chinese opera is very different from any other kind of opera, since it includes singing, tumbling, and acrobatics as well as martial arts skills and acting. It was a very harsh and difficult life but Jackie had nowhere else to go, so he stayed.

Jackie made his acting debut at age eight in the Cantonese movie "Seven Little Valiant Fighters: Big and Little Wong Tin Bar." He later teamed with other opera students in a performance group called "The Seven Little Fortunes." Jackie worked as a stuntman and an extra in the Hong Kong film industry. Jackie was extraordinarily athletic and inventive, so he gained a reputation for being fearless in Hong Kong film industry and he was in demand too. He worked in a restaurant and on a construction site, and there he got the name "Jackie". A worker named Jack had trouble pronouncing "Kong-sang" and started calling Jackie "little Jack." That soon became “Jackie” and the name stuck.

Willie Chan worked in the Hong Kong movie industry and he was looking for someone to star in a new movie being made by Lo Wei, a famous Hong Kong producer/director. Willie had seen Jackie at work as a stuntman and had been impressed. Soon Jackie was on his way back to Hong Kong to star in "New Fist of Fury". Willie Chan took control over Jackie's career, but the movies that Jackie made for Lo Wei were not very successful.  Even Jackie Chan acted in Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon as a side artist. Latter on that Jackie brought humor to martial arts movies; his first success was "Snake in Eagle's Shadow", that was followed by "Drunken Master" (another blockbuster) and Jackie's first ever directing job, "Fearless Hyena." All were big hits.

After a series of lukewarm receptions in the U.S., he returned to make Rumble in the Bronx, the movie that introduced Jackie to American audiences and secured him a place in their hearts (and their box office). Rumble was followed by the Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon series which put Jackie on the Hollywood  List. In recent years, Jackie's focus has shifted and he is trying new genres of film – fantasy, drama, romance – and is spending more and more time on his charity work. He takes his work as Ambassador for UNICEF/UNAIDS very seriously and spends all his spare time working tirelessly for children, the elderly, and those in need.

The Sacred Ganga

The Sacred Ganga

River Ganga/Ganges, most sacred river by Hindus, starts at the snout of the Gangotri Glacier and the source of the Bhagirathi river. A river Ganga is 2525 kilometers long and it has been the lifeline of the entire stretch of the Ganga-Yamuna plains, with over 300 million dependents today, why is Ganga considered so sacred? What is the secret behind its water? The waters of Ganga by nature cleanses itself and even a single dip in the waters of the holy river cleanses away the sins of a person.

In India, the last rites of most of the Hindus are performed along the shores of Ganga, and thousands of human bodies are consigned to the holy Ganga river. During festival days millions of Hindus take bath in the river day. But stil there is no sign of contagious diseases spreading from person to person due to contact through the river water.

Antibacterial Nature

A British physician tested the water of Ganga that bacterium Vibrio Cholerae which causes the deadly Cholera disease dies within three hours when placed in the waters of Ganga.

Anti-putrefication

Another British physician noticed that the waters of Ganga when taken even from the dirtiest mouths remained fresh throughout the long journey.

Purifying dead

A French microbiologist was amazed of seeing that a few feet below the bodies of persons floating in the Ganga who had died of dysentery and cholera, where one would expect millions of germs, there were no germs at all!

Hindus had for thousands of years rightly believed that Ganga purifies the dead bodies, which is why probably the bodies of even those who died of infectious diseases were offered to this river for purification!

Recent Research

An Indian environmental engineer/professor of hydrology has spent a life time studying the amazing properties of Ganges.

Finally he found that the remarkable self cleansing ability of Ganges is that Ganges water can able to reduce its biochemical oxygen demand levels much faster than other rivers! He says that the self-purifying quality of this river leads to oxygen levels that are 25 times higher than any other river in the world. The Ganges cleanses up suspended wastes 15 to 20 times faster when compared to other rivers!

It is observed that the water from the upper reaches of Ganga did not host mosquito breeding, and also prevented mosquito breeding in any water it was added to!

The major factors which give Ganges its unique ability are:

  • An unknown factor called the Mystery Factor that gives the river ganga an unusual ability to retain dissolved oxygen from the atmosphere! and bacteriophage.
  • The high levels of oxygen in the waters of Ganga gives it the unique ability to remain fresh over a prolonged period of time.

In other words, the water of river Ganga can be an alternative for using antibiotics to treat bacterial diseases! Ancient Indians who used the water of rivers like Ganga never required any antibiotics, for the very water they used was anti-bacterial in nature! This type of Bacteriophage Therapy has been suggested by many researchers, but rarely tried/tested or practised in the health industry.

Jerry Lewis The King of Comedy

Jerry Lewis The King of Comedy

Jerry Lewis was born Joseph Levitch on March 16, 1926, in Newark, New Jersey. His parents, Rae and Danny Lewis, were professionals in the entertainment world. Jerry's father was the "total entertainer," his mother played piano at New York City radio station WOR, made musical arrangements, and was her husband's musical director.

Jerry Lewis and his When only five years old Jerry made his debut in New York's Borscht Circuit singing "Brother, Can You Spare A Dime?" By the time he was fifteen, he had perfected a comic routine, miming and silently mouthing lyrics of operatic and popular songs to a phonograph located off-stage. This was known as his "Record Act".

Dressed in a drape jacket and pegged pants, Jerry braved the offices of booking agents. When he finally got a booking it was at a burlesque house in Buffalo, but this hardly proved to be his big break... ready to give up in discouragement, he was advised to continue his career by a veteran burlesque comedian, Max Coleman, who had worked with Jerry's father years before. When Lewis tried out his mime act at Brown's Hotel in Loch Sheldrake, New York, the following summer... the audience was so enthusiastic that Irving Kaye, a Borscht Circuit comedian, helped the youth get further bookings. Kaye remains very close to Jerry to this day.

Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis On July 25, 1946, Jerry began a show business partnership with Dean Martin, an association that would soon skyrocket both to fame. It started when Jerry was performing at the 500 Club in Atlantic City and one of the other entertainers quit suddenly. Lewis, who had worked with Martin at the Glass Hat in New York City, suggested Dean as a replacement. At first they worked separately, but then ad-libbed together, improvising insults and jokes, squirting seltzer water, hurling bunches of celery and exuding general zaniness. In less than eighteen weeks their salaries soared from $250.00 a week to $5,000.00.

When the motion picture producer Hal Wallis watched the two perform at the Copacabana in New York City, he offered them a contract with Paramount Pictures. Of their first film, "My Friend Irma" (1949), Bosley Crowther of the New York Times wrote: "We could go along with the laughs which were fetched by a new mad comedian, Jerry Lewis by name. This freakishly built and acting young man, who has been seen in nightclubs hereabouts with a collar-ad partner, Dean Martin, has a genuine comic quality. The swift eccentricity of his movements, the harrowing features of his face, and the squeak of his vocal protestations... have flair. His idiocy constitutes the burlesque of an idiot, which is something else again. He's the funniest thing in the picture".

For ten years Martin and Lewis sandwiched sixteen money making films between nightclub engagements, personal appearances, recording sessions, radio shows, and television bookings. Their last film together was "Hollywood or Bust" (1956). On July 25th of that year the two made their last nightclub appearance together at the Copacabana, exactly ten years to the day since they became a team.

Jerry Lewis Productions, Inc. From then on, Jerry Lewis was constantly on the move. His film career skyrocketed, and he recorded several records and albums; one of them "Rock-A-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody", released by Decca Records, has sold nearly four million copies to date. With increased confidence, Lewis plunged into screen writing, directing, producing as well as acting. In the spring of 1959, a contract between Paramount Pictures and Jerry Lewis Productions was signed specifying a payment of $10 million plus 60% of the profits for 14 films over a seven year period... at that time the biggest single transaction in film history for the exclusive services of one star.

One of Jerry's lifetime loves is the game of baseball. During the 1950's and 60's Jerry played first base with numerous professional baseball teams and trained every year with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Gil Hodges especially became one of his very close friends.

In 1965 Jerry moved to Columbia Pictures where he produced, directed and starred in "Three On A Couch"... he then wrote, produced, directed and starred in "The Big Mouth" and "Don't Raise the Bridge, Lower the River." His next project was to direct Peter Lawford and Sammy Davis, Jr. in "One More Time" (a sequel to "Salt and Pepper") in England for United Artists before moving to Warner Bros. to star, produce and direct "Which Way To The Front?".

In 1967 Jerry became a professor at the University of Southern California, where he taught graduate students a course in film direction. "The Total Film-Maker", based on recordings of 480 hours of his classroom lectures, was edited by Jerry and published by Random House in 1971. The USC library also houses an extensive collection of Jerry's original documents relating to motion picture production.

A fact not widely known in the United States is that Jerry has won the Best Director of the Year award eight times in Europe since 1960; three in France, and one each in Italy, Belgium, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. When "Hardly Working" opened in Paris, the marquee on the Champs Elysees simply read "JERRY". No further explanation was necessary for Jerry's French fans. The French film critic, Robert Benayoun, wrote: "I consider Jerry Lewis, since the death of Buster Keaton, to be the foremost comic artist of the time. He corresponds to his era both reflecting and criticising our civilization." The French director, Jean-Luc Godard, said: "Jerry Lewis is the only American director who has made progressive films, he is much better than Chaplin and Keaton."

The Times of London stated: "Quite apart from his gifts as a performer, Mr. Lewis is one of the best directors working in America today." Although Lewis is gratified by such esteem, he values the words engraved on a plaque given to him by his friend, President John F. Kennedy, and reads: "There are three things that are real... God, human folly and laughter. Since the first two are beyond our comprehension, we must do the best we can with the third."

Over the years Jerry Lewis scored triumphs in stage appearances in Europe, where he has been hailed as one of the greatest comedians of the 20th Century. When he played at the Olympia Theatre in Paris in the 1970's, tickets were sold out immediately. "Jerry Lewis is more than a great artist, he is a great man," stated L'Aurore.

1977 marked the year that the highest honor ever bestowed upon an entertainer, would recognize the tireless efforts Jerry Lewis has displayed since 1949, in his fight against Muscular Dystrophy. "Jerry Lewis is a man for all seasons, all people, all times. His name has, in the hearts of millions, become synonymous with peace, love and brotherhood." With those words, Congressman Les Aspin of Wisconsin concluded his nomination of Jerry Lewis for the Nobel Peace Prize.

In addition to his Nobel Peace Prize nomination, Jerry has received many other honors... in 1971 the AFL-CIO presented him with the Murray-Green Award for Community Services, the highest honor the labor organization can bestow upon an American citizen. In September 1976 the United States Senate unanimously adopted a resolution of appreciation to him "For his outstanding contribution in the fight against muscular dystrophy." In June 1978 the communications industry honored him with the NATPE (National Association of Television Program Executives) Award of the Year for his humanitarian efforts in raising funds to combat neuromuscular disease through his annual Labor Day Telethon.

In June 1978 Lewis received the Jefferson Award for the "Greatest Public Service Benefiting the Disadvantaged" in special ceremonies at the Supreme Court in Washington, D. C.

In January 1980, the Touchdown Club of Washington, D. C. honored him with its prestigious Hubert H. Humphrey Humanitarian Award. This award is given annually to an individual who best exemplifies the ideals and courage of the late Vice President.

Jerry Lewis receives the French Legion of Honor Jerry received the Boston University School of Law's prestigious Neal Pike Prize for Service to the Handicapped in November:, 1984. The award, which was presented by Boston University President John B. Silber, "recognizes individuals who have made special contributions that have improved the lives of people with disabilities." In 1984 Jerry was inducted into the French Legion of Honor by presidential decree. Legion membership honors individuals whose accomplishment demonstrate extraordinary public service. Several months before Jerry was made a Commander in the Order of Arts and Letters he was extolled by French Minister of Culture Jack Lang, for his "human qualities and generosity. You are a child's friend and a model for adults."

In June, 1985, the Department of Defense presented him with the highest award it can bestow upon a civilian... the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service, recognizing Jerry's work in the fight against Muscular Dystrophy.

In June, 1987, Jerry was further honored when he received a Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from Mercy College, headquartered in Westchester, New York. Jerry, who gave the commencement address at the graduation ceremony, was described by Mercy College President Wilbur J. LeMelle as a shining example for people everywhere that one person can have an impact on society and change the world."

1988 opened with Jerry receiving the American debut of the "Award of Professionalism and Achievement" from the Eterna Watch Corporation in recognition of "outstanding humanitarian contributions and dedication to the Muscular Dystrophy Association."

One of the most successful performers in show business history, box office gross receipts of his films total about $800 million (The majority of which when movie tickets were between 25 & 50 cents apiece.) Lewis has received worldwide acclaim for his verve, style and personality. He has a fine feel for comic rhythm and possesses the unique qualities of a great clown. Critic Harriet Van Horne has called Lewis' screen image a "sort of witless genius", and Hollywood director Leo McCarey has described Lewis as the "Pied Piper of the business, the heir to the mantle of Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd."

Between films, the versatile and dynamic Lewis also found time to put pen to paper and produce his biography, "Jerry Lewis, In Person" a revealing portrait of the on and off-screen man, written in conjunction with Herb Gluck.

In Director Martin Scorcese's "The King of Comedy", Jerry stars as a talk show host with Robert DeNiro as his obsessed fan. "Cracking Up" (AKA "Smorgasbord") released in 1983, employs the comedian's talent as writer, director and actor. He has starred in "To Catch A Cop" and "How Did You Get In?" filmed in Europe... he also starred in the ABC made-for-television movie, "Fight For Life", and in five episodes of the CBS-TV series "Wiseguy."

In 1990 Jerry was asked to write and direct a segment regarding children's rights for UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund). The film "Boy" that he created has become the subject of critical acclaim at film festivals around the world. In 1991, he starred in "Arizona Dream" with co-stars Johnny Depp and Faye Dunaway.

In January of 1991, Jerry was surprised by the National Academy of Cable Programming when emcee Whoopi Goldberg presented him with the Comic Life Achievement Award (the "ACE" award). The telecast was seen around the world. In April of 1991, Jerry was inducted into the Broadcast Hall of Fame by the National Association of Broadcasters, at the NAB convention in Las Vegas.

In 1994 Jerry traveled to Blackpool, England to make "Funny Bones" for Hollywood Pictures. The film co-stars Oliver Platt and Leslie Caron, and was directed by Peter Chelsom. The film was applauded internationally by critics and moviegoers alike, as a unique achievement of the cinematic art form..

Jerry on stage at the Marquis Theater in A dream of Jerry's had always been to play "Broadway." In the 1950's Martin & Lewis did 9 shows a day at the Paramount Theater on Broadway. Between shows they performed and threw a million photographs a week to the crowd of 75,000 fans, from their dressing room window, and were the most popular act in show business... but that was not "Broadway." In February of 1995, Jerry set foot on stage for his first performance as the star of "Damn Yankees" at the Marquis Theater on Broadway. The subsequent 185 performances were the fulfillment of that lifelong dream.

September 1995 was the beginning of the "Damn Yankees" International Tour. During its second year, the tour broke all attendance records of any previous traveling Broadway production.

During November of 1995, while the touring company of "Damn Yankees" was in Louisville, Kentucky, Jerry Lewis and Dr. Clifford Kuhn conducted the first "Laughter and Healing" seminar at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Jerry and Dr. Kuhn have engaged in remarkable dialogue with representatives from every facet of the psychiatric and medical community regarding the value of humor in the every day practice of our human condition.

On February 22, 1998 Jerry received the Lifetime Achievement Award from The American Comedy Awards. Later that year Jerry made 2 live performance tours of Australia and was so warmly embraced by the fans that he has committed to performing there on a continuing basis for years to come.

In 1999 Jerry dedicated much of his time to the remakes of his 1960's classics, "The Bellboy," "Cinderfella," "The Errand Boy," and "The Nutty Professor II," as well as writing and developing new film and television projects. In September of 1999 Jerry was awarded the "Golden Lion" by the Venice International Film Festival for his lifetime achievements in motion pictures. This was a great honor from the oldest film festival in Europe. Jerry continued his live performance tours, Laughter and Healing seminars and inspirational speaking engagements internationally. Jerry also established a long-term relationship with the newest and hottest comedy channel in Europe. On September 15, 1999 Jerry made his first live appearance on the COMEDIE! channel in Paris, France.

Despite all this hectic activity, Jerry gives the appearance of being ageless. Six feet in height (184cm), around 170 lb. (77kg), hazel eyes and black hair. He has five sons: Gary, Ron, Scott, Chris and Anthony, seven grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, thanks to his granddaughter Sara Jane Spence.

On February 13, 1983, Jerry married SanDee "Sam" Pitnick of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. They have one daughter, Danielle Sara... who's the "light of their lives and the air in their lungs"... she was born in March of 1992.

His motion pictures, television shows, stage performances, recordings, radio programs, books, and personal appearances, have brought his unique humor and creativity to every corner of the globe. His status as one of the most recognizable people on earth, is constantly renewed by each new generation of audience who discover the fun and goodness of laughter.

Jerry Lewis has a motto that reflects more than anything else his ongoing love affair with humanity: "I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again!".

Fred Astaire The Dancing King

Fred Astaire The Dancing King
On May 10, 1899, in Omaha, Nebraska, Frederick Austerlitz came into the world eighteen months after his sister, Adele. The son of an Austrian immigrant and traveling salesman, four-year-old Fred used to accompany his older sister to ballet school where she exhibited an early talent for dancing. In 1904, Mama Austerlitz, wanting only the best for her children, moved to New York and enrolled them in a performing arts school run by Ned Wayburn, who was considered one of the pioneers of modern tap dancing.

The brother and sister team debuted in New Jersey and began touring on the popular Orpheum Circuit. Most of Fred's early schooling was done under his mother's tutelage while he was on the road. They changed their name to Astaire at the time of World War One, when anti-German sentiment was very prevalent. In 1917, he and his sister, Adele, made their Broadway debut in a musical revue called "Over The Top.

Their big break came when they were both cast in "For Goodness Sake," a musical, which featured songs written by George and Ira Gershwin. Throughout the 1920s, the brother and sister team flourished by performing in such hits as "Funny Face" and "Lady Be Good." Sister Adele retired in 1932 leaving brother Fred to fend for himself. Fred made his film debut in 1933 in "Dancing Lady". His role as an accordion player in the movie, "Flying Down To Rio" in 1933 matched him up with the lovely Ginger Rogers for the first time and the rest is more or less celluloid history.

Ironically, Fred Astaire, who was always depicted in formal wear as he "put on the Ritz", hated to get dressed up and considered a tux and tails his work clothes. In the 1940s and 1950s he danced on-screen with Eleanor Powell, Cyd Charisse, and Judy Garland. His singing, though untrained, was admired by the finest songwriters of his time. He retired in 1971 but occasionally appeared in films and on television. His combination of sophisticated, seemingly effortless grace and technical virtuosity revolutionized popular-dance performance. He died in 1987 at the age of 88.
