Creating Sitemap to a Blog in Blogger



The XML Sitemap file is like a directory of all web pages that exist on your website or blog. 


Search engines like Google and Bing uses XML sitemap files to discover pages on your site during regular crawling.


Since most of the sites doesnt have a sitemap Google crawler misses out the pages while crawling. These XML Sitemap file is nothing but a directory of all web pages in your website or blog. An complete sitemap file will mention all pages of a site if your blog is hosted on Blogger.


The default XML sitemap file of any Blogger blog will have only the 26 most recent blog posts. So Google crawler may miss out some of your older blog pages, that are missing in the default XML sitemap file. Its easy to create XML sitemap for Blogger.

Follow the steps: 

Note: This section is valid for both regular Blogger blogs (with .blogspot.com) and also the self-hosted Blogger blogs with a custom domain (xyz.com).



  1. Open the Sitemap Generator e.g. http://ctrlq.org/blogger/.
  2. Enter your full address of your blogspot blog in the text box.
  3. Click the Generate Sitemap button, and copy the entire XML code from the XML Sitemap for textbox to your clipboard. 
  4. Under Settings in Blogger dashboard, Click Search Preferences.
  5. Click Edit to enable the Custom robots.txt option (available in the Crawling and Indexing section). 
  6. Paste the clipboard text and save your changes.



Thats all we are done. Now search engines will automatically discover your post from your website via the robots.txt file.
