India won its second medal (Silver medal) at the London Olympics 2012 when shooter Vijay Kumar claimed silver in Men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol at the Royal Artillery Barracks.

Both medals for India at the London Olympics have come in shooting. First, it was Gagan Narang (10m Air Rifle bronze) and now Vijay, who is a subedar in the Indian army. It was a fine achievement for Vijay in his first Olympics.

Olympic silver medalist, Rathore said he was "proud to be an Indian and from the Indian army. He tweeted, (@Ra_THORe) "I am so proud to be indian today, so proud to be from the Indian Army and so proud to represent Indian Shooting; thank you Vijay Kumar :)."

We are also proud that you not only save India at borders but also save India's proud outside the borders.

Rationalise Auto Rickshaw fares in Chennai

Auto rickshaw drivers in Chennai are fleecing passengers at rates close to Rs.25 per km. The auto-rickshaw fares haven’t been revised in the last five years, even though fuel prices have been hiked frequently. This has resulted in considerable inconvenience for commuters who depend on autorickshaws for their transport needs as well to the auto rickshaw drivers.

Most auto drivers never go by the meter and demand exorbitant fares. This unfair pricing affects the commuters who, end up being harassed.

Since 2007, neither has the fare structure been revised nor has action been taken against those who don't use the meter. The auto-drivers too face a number of hardships and this has resulted in a number of social issues as well. Many auto drivers don’t have an insurance. Since it is difficult for them to secure loans, they turn to private moneylenders and hence overcharge.

We therefore request the transport department to

1. Regulate the fares of auto rickshaws and create a system for updating fare structures.
2. Implement alternate methods like rate card which will benefit the commuters as well as the auto drivers even during fluctuating fuel prices.
3. Establish a helpline to report violations and ensure strict enforcement.
