Michael Fred Phelps II is an American swimmer who recently broke Larisa Latynina's world record of winning 18 medals in Olympics. He also holds the all time records for 15 gold medalsin individual events, and also holds the record for the most first-place finishes at single Olympic Games. Phelps holds the record in 100 metres butterfly, 200 metres butterfly and 400 metres individual, and he got World Swimmer of the Year Award six times and American Swimmer of the year Award eight times. Phelps earned Sportsman of the Year award from Sports Illustrated magazine in 2008. Phelps broke the world record in the 200-m butterfly to become the youngest man of 15 years and 9 months ever to set a swimming world record, and he broke his own world record in the 200-m butterfly en route to becoming a world champion for the first time.
